| Clever things you didn’t know about your mobile phone There are some things that can be done in times of serious emergencies. Your mobile phone can truly be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Take a look at the following things that you can do with it: ![]() Emergencies The Universal Emergency Number for Mobiles is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your phone network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing local network to establish the emergency connection, this number can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Give it a try! If you’ve locked your keys in the car Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy in the future. A handy reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in your car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone or handset. Hold your mobile close to your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button whilst holding it near the mobile phone at their end. Your car will unlock. (*stop looking around for a wire coat hanger, they rarely appear at the side of the road) Secret Battery Power Did you forget to put it on charge? O well! Not to worry! To activate the emergency juice, press the keys *3370# - your mobile will restart with this reserve and the indicator will show a 50% increase in battery life. This reserve will get charged the next you plug into the mains. Disable a Stolen mobile phone To check your phone’s serial number by keying in the following: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear. This number is exclusive to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere secure. If your phone is stolen you can telephone your service provider (*OK well borrow one!) and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally worthless. This may make you feel a little better perhaps more than the ‘You Are a Victim of Crime’ letter from the local constabulary. Terry |
