Sorting the Trash |
Sorting the Trash
Here at Blackpool Business List we advocate recycling and environmentally friendly practices, after all it was one of the main reasons for starting this directory. We oppose paper directories on the basis that despite claims from the major directories in the UK of being eco-friendly we don’t think they are necessary and the recycled paper could be put to better use. So what happens to all that junk from your wheelie bin? And why do we have to sort it out into different categories? First of all I would just like to point out that we agree in principle with the process of recycling but we do however question some of the strategies of the local councils. Creating informational DVD’s that cost thousands of pounds, and imposing ridiculous regimental schemes only serve to exacerbate those not wholly in favour of the idea. But putting aside the Council and its idiosyncrasies for a moment, let us just imagine that we sacked the lot of them. What are our own responsibilities in terms of being a human being that creates waste products? It’s a nice thought that some of it can be put to good use even for those that are not entirely taken in by the green politics. There are a couple of ways in which the trash is collected and dealt with. Firstly there are the Kerbside Sort Schemes where the sorting is done on collection and thrown into different containers in the refuse collection vehicle; and secondly where it is carted off to the MRF (Material Recovery Facility) to be processed. Some of the plastics and paper is sold on to make other products. Recycled paper is the obvious but did you know they can make clothing from plastic bottles? |
